CityRover’s Central Park Walking Tour: The Best Way to See and Learn About the Park

Living paintings in Central Park

Central Park was designed to be explored on foot, but not in a group of 20 following a guide with a flag and a mic, or sitting in a pedicab listening to memorized fragments of information.  Instead, contact us about an immersive and personalized private tour.

Tour Highlights:

  • Escape NYC’s concrete jungle and get lost in America’s first and most famous landscaped city park
  • Discover some of the most photographed Central Park landscapes and features, including The Mall, Bethesda Terrace, The Lake & Bow Bridge, Strawberry Fields & Imagine Memorial, The Great Lawn, and many others
  • Learn about some of Central Park’s secrets and discover hidden gems like the Ladies’ Pavilion, Belvedere Castle, and Shakespeare Garden
  • Enjoy Central Park’s incredible beauty while learning about its history and design

New Yorkers may disagree on a lot of things, but it’s safe to say that most if not all would agree with the following statement:

Central Park is a must-see New York City attraction

We wrote about it in our detailed Top 10 Places to Visit in NYC guide.

The Angel in the Waters
The Lake in Central Park
Bethesda Arcade in Central Park
John Lennon Imagine Memorial

What customers are saying:

★★★★★ “Central Park – Amazing Private Tour”

We booked a private tour of Central Park - it's something I've always wanted to see more of and know more about. And we weren't disappointed! Max was terrific - showing us the beautiful sites while keeping us entertained with the engrossing history. Max is a delight - incredibly knowledgeable, thoughtful, and fun. This was everything we'd hoped for and we will definitely use and recommend CityRover in the future!

★★★★★ “Excellent way to see Central Park”

I joined the Scenic Central Park Tour today with City Rover Walks. Max was out tour guide and it was very informative and knowledgeable scenic walk of Central Park. He told us a lot about the history and showed us the hidden gems of the park as well. I highly recommend Max for providing a great experience.

Tour FAQs:

How strenuous is this walk? This walk covers about 3 miles on foot in a little over 3 hours (private tours could be longer or shorter).  The terrain is mostly flat, but there are a couple of small hills, as well as a couple of staircases to climb and descend.  You’ll be on your feet most of the time, though if the park benches are dry, you will have a couple of opportunities to sit down.  We try to maintain a steady walking pace to cover all the areas of interest.  So if you think you might find it difficult to keep up at a moderate walking speed with the rest of the group, or if stairs and small hills pose a challenge, please consider a private tour with us, which can be tailored to suit your pace and fitness level.

What About Kids? Our public tours are not ideal for young children, as they involve a lot of walking and cover topics geared to adults.  If you would like to tour with us and have children ages 10 and younger, please contact us about a private tour.   That said, there are 2 “child” tickets ($25 each) available for each public tour for children ages 12 and under.

Meeting Point: Detailed meeting point instructions will be emailed to you once your reservation has been processed.   The tour starts near 5th Avenue and Central Park South and ends near the Natural History Museum.

Stops: There will be at least 1 restroom break during our walk.  Each participant will also be offered a complimentary bottle of water and a small snack on the walk.  A meal prior to the tour is recommended.

Weather: Our public tours take place rain or shine, barring a severe storm in the forecast, in which case we would email or call you and offer options to switch to another tour or reschedule.  If severe weather prevents us from leading this tour and you are unable to switch or reschedule to another, then we would issue you a refund for the tour in question.

Are gratuities included? Guide gratuities are not included in the tour price, so if you enjoy your tour, tips are very much appreciated.
